Bees Bounce Back with emphatic win
Braishfield cemented their place at the top of the table with a classy away win at basement club CK Andover who put up a valiant effort throughout, albeit the margin could have been more emphatic but for the woodwork which came to the home team’s assistance on no less than 5 occasions.Bees almost took the lead on 4 minutes when Seb Gay passed the ball out to the right and Freddie Doswells cut back went behind the advancing Sam Briggs only for Cam Griffiths to scoop over. 2 minutes later and following good work on the left flank from Jacob Lowe whose sideways pass found Cam Griffiths, but his shot ricocheted off the crossbar and away to safety. The post came to CK’s rescue on 11 mins, this time denying Freddie Doswell. Bees pressure finally paid dividends on 13 mins when Bees broke from midfield and Cam Griffiths went to the byline and his slide rule pass was met by Sam Briggs for a tap in to make it 1 nil. On 17 mins, a poor goal kick from CK only reached Jonny Palmer midway between penalty area and halfway line who touched the ball to Sam Briggs who stroked the ball into an empty net from the edge of the area to double Bees advantage. Sam Briggs bagged his 5 min hat-trick when on 18 mins the home defence fail to clear the lines and his scuffed shot evades the keeper to make it 3 nil. On 20 mins Bees won a corner which was initially cleared back out to Cam Griffiths whose unstoppable shot from the corner of the box finds its way into the top right hand corner of the net. CK pulled a goal back on 22mins when Bees central defenders failed to clear the ball and in the ensuing scramble the home team reduced the deficit. The 4 goal gap was regained on 24 mins when the ball fell to Sam Briggs who dinked the ball over the oncoming defender and his well shot on the turn beats the despairing grasp of the goalkeeper who only managed to parry it into the net to make it 5.1 to the visitors. Freddie Doswell almost capitalised on a poor clearance on 31mins but his shot went narrowly over.
The 2nd half started evenly, but on 41 mins the ball broke to Cam Griffiths from a throw on on the left hand side, but his shot hit the left hand post before rolling along the goal line and hitting the opposite post before being cleared to safety following a goalmouth. However, CK weren’t in the mood to roll over and on 43 mins were awarded a free kick on the right and from the loose ball they hit Fin Gardiner’s left hand upright twice in the space of 5 secs. Bees were stung back into attack and on 45mins would have increased the lead through Sam Briggs, only to be denied by a good save by the keeper. Bees kept up the pressure and on 48 mins bees broke again releasing Cam Griffiths who slotted home to make it 6.1 and within 2 minutes, he too, claimed his hat-trick when again put through and placed the ball under the oncoming keeper. The 8th goal on 53 minutes is a carbon copy of the 7th following neat interplay between the forward line. On 55 mins Jonny Palmer threw the ball to Cam Griffiths who touched the ball onto Sam Briggs who lobbed the keeper from 15 yds out for his 5th and Bees 9th of the game. Jonny Palmer almost got his name on the scoresheet when his rasping shot went inches over the crossbar on 58 mins. Bees wrapped up the scoring on 66 mins when Bees pressure resulted in the ball breaking free to Seb Gay whose right foot shot from 20yds looped over the goalkeeper to make it 10.1. Whilst the forwards took all the plaudits this was a very satisfactory all round team performance with all the boys sticking to their task. Bees are away to mid table Clarendon on Saturday.
