Braishfield Bees U12 0-1 Fordingbridge Turks
Bees suffer Opening Day Setback
The Bees U12 started their new campaign with what is arguably one of their best performances for a long while and yet amazingly still came away with nothing to show for their efforts.
The visitors, newly promoted from division 2 last season, started the game strongly and for the first 5-10 minutes kept the Bees on the back foot. That said goalkeeper Henry Brown and the defence of Sam Rowell, Charlie Taylor and Josh Uren were very comfortable and dealt with any threat. After 15 minutes Bees midfielder Joe Wright suffered a knock to the ankle and moved to the goalkeeper position with Brown going out to the right wing.
At this point the game evened out a bit and Bees kept the game in the middle of the park. It was therefore doubly frustrating when Fordingbridge took the lead. A momentary lapse of concentration between the midfield and defence let a cross go straight across the goal area to the back post where their striker gladly accepted a tap in.
From this point on though the match changed and the Bees found extra gears and created chance after chance. First to threaten was striker Matty Hill whose shot could only find the well placed goalkeeper. Next to try their luck was Dylan King breaking from midfield onto a great pass from Taylor but his shot was dragged just wide. Charlie Anderson then had an effort go just over the bar after Hill had is initial shot blocked. Good work from Brown then put Hill through again but his shot went just over. Just before half time King put Hill through again but the keeper was in the right place to foil his attempt. (HT: 0-1)
Bees started the second half very much on the front foot and King again did great work putting Hill through on goal but his shot went straight at the keeper who was very much keeping his team in the game. He needed to be on top form because the Bees tide was relentless at this stage
Next to threaten was Ethan Tanner who had a great shot after being set up well by Hywel Jones….again the keeper saved it. Defender Josh Uren, now playing in midfield, tried his luck with a tremendously powerful shot low into the corner but the keeper got down well for the umpteenth time. Powerhouse midfielder Jasper Bates then caused havoc in the Bridge penalty box and laid the ball back for on-rushing Tanner but his shot just went wide of the angle of the goal.
With the momentum still with Braishfield Charlie Taylor kept making great forays forward causing the visitors numerous problems. One of these set up a chance for Anderson but again the shot was sent straight at the keeper.
By now Bees had put so much effort in that they just ran out of steam on the final 5 minutes and Fordingbridge held on for what in the end was a very fortunate victory. If the boys keep playing like this throughout the season then it won’t be long before they are rewarded with a victory.
Just a little bit more luck and composure in the final pass or shot is needed……………………..on to the next game.
FT: 0 – 1
