Braishfield entertained Amesbury in TestWay Youth Football League Cup Semi Final at a fog filled Hunts Farm. The home team were favourites against their 2nd Division opponents who had only lost once this season – however the visitors beat Braishfield in the Hampshire Cup last season, so they weren’t to be under estimated. With 5 mins on the clock Braishfield won a throw in on the left which was flicked on by Jack Gwynne to Jonny Palmer whose through ball to Cam Griffiths released him on a mazy run, calmly finished off when he slid the ball under the advancing keeper. On10 mins Palmer latched onto a through ball and ran 40yds and shot just wide of the right hand post with the home team in the ascendancy. 10 mins later Palmer chipped the ball through to Sam Briggs who shot wide. Amesbury started to claw their way back into the game and on 25 mins following a break on the right the home keeper, Fin Gardiner, rushed out and they almost levelled from an acute angle but for merest of touches from a defender, diverting the ball for a throw in.
On 31 mins Palmer put Griffiths through in his own half and he ran into the opposition box, but he dragged his shot wide from an angle With a couple of minutes remaining in the 1st half a speculative through ball from the visitors created indecision in the Braishfield box and Gardiner missed the bouncing ball and a certain goal was only averted when Henni Bergamischi through himself in front of the powerful shot to divert the ball onto the crossbar and away for a corner. From the ensuing corner Alex Jones cleared off the line, however the ball is played back in to the box with the Amesbury forward arriving 1st to glance his header past Gardiner in the Braishfield goal to level scores with the last kick of the 1st half.
Within 2 mins of the restart Braishfield won a throw in on the left and broke through the home defence, his shot being cleared to Palmer whose goalbound shot was clearly handled by an Amesbury player, but the ref didn’t appear to see the illegal intervention. Braishfield were in the ascendancy and on 39 mins the ball broke to Griffiths on the edge of the box and shot which the visitors’ keeper scrambled away for a corner which Levi Dendy glanced just wide of the far post. Braishfield were in control and on 45 mins the Amesbury keeper saved well from a firm Palmer shot. A couple of mins later and Griffiths again left his marker in his wake on the left by-line and his shot went just past the far post with 2 team-mates well placed to receive a pass. On 57 mins Harry Ockwell wins the ball on the right, but his cross was eluded by Griffiths and Briggs, runs through to Billie Baines who narrowly blasts over the bar from 6yds. 5 mins later Palmer ran through the Amesbury defence but shot just wide. Fom the ensuing goal kick the ball came to Griffiths whose cross shot hit the crossbar and safety.
With a minute left of normal time and the spectre of penalties looming, Griffith broke for a carbon copy of his 1st goal to deservedly put Braishfield into the final under floodlights at Andover New Street 28th April against old rivals Whitchurch
