Braishfield began their season with a comprehensive victory at near neighbours Micklemersh and Timsbury in driving rain for most of the match. It was a victory for the skilful passing game of Braishfield over their hosts more direct approach. The visitors almost took the lead on 7 mins when Callum Crotty hit the cross bar from 20 yards with the keeper well beaten. On 19mins Will Poulter crossed the ball for Jack Gwynne to volley home with the ball hitting the transport wheel on the side of the goal, however the ball was wrongly adjudged to have hit the post and bounced away to safety. The home team took heart from this lucky escape and within a minute had taken the lead against the run of play. they almost doubled their lead 3 minutes later when a speculative lob almost beat Fin Gardiner, who somehow managed to tip the ball around his post for a corner. However, Braishfield started to take control of midfield through the energetic Crotty and Marcus Gibson and on 34 mins Gibson beat 3 players in the middle of the park and threaded a through ball to Sam Briggs who levelled clinically with his left foot. With only 2 mins remaining in the 1st half the M & T beat Alex Jones on the Braishfield left and powered his way into the box and Gardiner could only parry his powerful shot into the corner of the net, however Braishfield were to finish the half on level terms when Braishfield on a freekick on the right and Will Poulters’ cross/shot eluded everyone and nestled in the top corner of the net to make it 2:2.
Braishfield started the 2nd half strongly and soon created a 2 goal cushion with the 3rd goal coming from debutant Will Johnson following a fumble from the home keeper – he almost scored a 2nd when Briggs turned provider and Johnson’s side foot d volley went straight to the keeper. Johnson returned the favour on 46mins putting Briggs through one on one with the keeper to make it 4:2. Midway through the 1st half Jones was the recipient of a late tackle and the home midfielder picked up the games only yellow card. The deficit was reduced when Braishfield failed to defend a M & T attack down the home teams’ left wing with the ball being crossed into the box for the home forward chesting the ball down before slotting home on 60 mins. Braishfield lost keeper Gardiner on 64 mins following a late challenge to be replaced by Josh Parsons to see out the last few minutes of the game, however on 66 mins Poulter put through Biggs whose shot was mishandled giving Johnson a tap in. Johnson finished off the scoring near to the end of the match to finish off a strong performance
Braishfield are at home to Whitchurch this Saturday.
