Braishfield Bees U12s returned to league action on Saturday having gone through to the 3rd round of the Hampshire Cup the previous weekend.
An early kick off saw the pitch in slick condition having been freshly cut the day before. Vini Blomberg-Smith moved up from defence to midfield alongside Thomas Osborne and Freddie Dart was handed the captains armband after a fine start to the season at right back. Calum Henderson started on the right wing with Jimmy Palfrey back between the sticks after a rare run out and goal the previous weekend.
On a wide pitch the Bees started well, passing the ball around and using the flanks to get past the Barton Stacey defence. On 6 minutes, V. Blomberg-Smith picked the ball up in midfield and played a fine pass to Samuel Payne on the left wing who beat the off side trap and calmly slotted the ball home to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. With the Bees clearly enjoying most of the play, Tommy Tubb held the ball up on the edge of the Barton 18 yard box and played a sublime ball out to S.Payne on the left, who like his goal a few minutes earlier, fired it past the Barton keeper to make it 2-0 after only 8 minutes.
The Bees, clearly in a confident mood, continued to go on the attack in numbers. Harry Taylor, having yet another fine season, grew in confidence picking up the ball in defence and surging forward with midfield playmaker T. Osborne creating space in front of him. Henry Gray linked up well with the forward players at left back and Calum Henderson was a menace down the right wing. Despite the numerous shots on goal the Barton ‘keeper came to his teams rescue to keep them in the game. On 18 minutes an attack by Barton down the right and a rare Bees defensive mix up saw the Barton ‘nippy striker poke the ball home to give them a lifeline, 2-1 (HT).
With 3 changes at half time, Jack Baigent came into midfield, George Lindley spearheading the attack and Sam Johnson at right wing Bees found it hard to breakdown a resolute Barton side. Henry Gray linked well down the left wing forcing a Bees corner. With the ball whipped in, Baigent headed the ball goal bound for it to take a deflection and his follow up shot was well saved by the Barton Keeper. J. Palfrey was called upon a couple of times in goal but calmly cleared up any Barton attack. With the clock counting down and the Bees still on the attack, T. Osbourne played an inch perfect ball out to S. Johnson on the right wing who swung the ball into the box for G. Lindley to head home and give the Bees a deserved 3-1 win and maximum points. The Bees return to league action on Saturday entertaining Bishops Waltham at Romsey Sports Centre.
