Both teams struggled for numbers in what was to be the 1st of 3 games for Braishfield over the Half Term break. That said, Braishfield still managed to field a strong squad against a Lyndhurst team struggling this season in the lower half of the Division. Braishfield started strongly and imposed constant pressure for the 1st 10mins and it was a surprise that they didn’t take the lead earlier. On 14mins Charlie Hitchings clipped the ball down the line to Sam Briggs who crossed to Callum Crotty who in turn played ball over the defence to on the oncoming Jack Darnton who beat his marker and rounded the keeper to slot home to make it 1 nil to the hosts. 2 mins later and Braishfield doubled their advantage when Jack Nicholas crossed to Briggs who evaded his marker and crossed to Darnton whose side foot volley made it 2 nil. On 18mins Briggs grabbed his 1st goal following a goalmouth scramble at 2nd attempt. Complacency started to set in and Lyndhurst had a 5min spell of pressure that came to nothing. Braishfield pressure almost paid off on 32mins when Nicholas hit the post from an acute angle and the ball rolled along the goal-line to safety. Braishfield went into halftime 4 up when Crotty put Briggs through and his first time shot was saved by the keeper’s legs giving Darnton a tap in for his hat trick.
Whilst the halftime scoreline was comfortable the coaching team sought more out of the team with less individual play and swifter passing demanded from the 2nd half performance and on 49 mins Briggs picked up the ball on the edge of box and scuffed his shot on his wrong foot into the bottom left hand corner to make it 5nil. 2mins later and a poor goal kick fell to Darnton about 20yds out and his half volley looped over stranded keeper to make it 6. On 59 mins Levi Dendy’s long cross field ball found Briggs who chested the ball down and played in Darnton on the right hand side of the box who cut back onto his left foot and curled a delicious shot into the top left corner beyond the keeper. Once again on 61 mins Briggs was the provider when he won the ball on the edge of box and laid back to Jonny Palmer to slot home in the bottom right hand corner to make it 8. Braishfield won a corner on 65mins which they took short to Cam Moody who dropped his shoulder to beat his marker and his low shot bobbled in front of the visitor’s keeper to make it 9. By now it was becoming a very one sided affair and on 68 mins Braishfield won another corner which Nicholas hit long for Hitchings to volley into the corner from 6yds to make it 10. With a min to go the ball broke loose to Nicholas following a goalmouth scramble and his low drive went thru the keeper to make it 11: 0.
Braishfield entertain Alderbury in a top of the table clash on Saturday, being 3 points behind their visitors, having drawn the corresponding away fixture earlier in the season.
